Client
Hutama Karya — PLTU Jawa 9 & 10 2x1000 MW.
Challenge
Suspended sediment entering the seawater intake facility accumulates over time, driving dredging cost and threatening cooling water availability.
Approach
CFD modeling and simulation of seawater with a sediment transport model were performed, using a total suspended solid of 0.123 mg/L, the lowest low water level of -0.913 m, 4 operating ACWP at 5,430 m3/hour each and 5 operating CWP at 101,600 m3/hour each.
Result
Sand volume fraction contours showed the sediment distribution inside the facility and where deposits concentrate along the basin floor.
Client outcome
The sedimentation rate inside the seawater intake facility was calculated, allowing dredging planning and intake operation to be based on quantified figures.
