Challenge

Tube leaks recurred inside an HRSG economizer without a clear explanation of the internal flow and loading conditions driving them.

Approach

CFD modeling and simulation were conducted to analyse the flow field — velocity and pressure distribution — inside the economizer tube bundle and to extract the resulting force magnitude on each tube.

Result

High-force regions were identified around the bundle headers and bends, with a peak force magnitude of roughly 6.08e+05 N coinciding with the recorded leak points.

Client outcome

The results provided scientific reference data for root cause analysis of the tube leaks and for prioritising inspection of the highest-loaded regions.
