Client
Trans Pacific Petrochemical Indotama.
Challenge
The chamber circulation pumps in a piping system experienced jamming so that they did not work properly, and the flow condition upstream of the pumps was unknown.
Approach
CFD simulations were conducted for suction lines A, B and C to obtain the flow field behaviour in the suction pipe before the fluid enters the pumps, resolving velocity magnitude and streamline patterns up to about 7 m/s.
Result
The comparison between the three suction branches exposed the difference in velocity distribution and flow uniformity delivered to each pump.
Client outcome
The client obtained a clear understanding of suction-side flow behaviour as the basis for troubleshooting and improving pump operation.
